On the 17th of September 2013 42 Solutions participated the Explanatory Group meeting for NIAG study on Aeronautical Surveillance at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels and decided to join the Study Group. At the meeting 42 Solutions was nominated for the National Focal Point of the Netherlands.

The aim of the study is is to define the best technical approach to a coordinated, structured and optimized use of different primary (i.e. Primary Surveillance Radar (PSR)), secondary (i.e. Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR)) and passive surveillance systems, including cooperative and non-cooperative systems, and military Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) systems, for NATO aeronautical surveillance, that will provide NATO with an optimal aeronautical picture for security and defence tasks.

On the 6th and 7th of November 2013 the Study Group Kick-Off meeting took place at the premises of Thales Raytheon Systems in Massy (France). At the meeting two teams were formed, Team A studying Air Traffic Management Operations and Team B studying Architecture of Surveillance Systems & Equipment. 42 Solutions is member of Team A.

Team A – Air Traffic Management Operations

Identification of incompatibility between civil and military systems and operations;
Recommendations in terms of required data and information (identity,..);
Recommendations for the development of (STANAGS) to provide the key interface standards needed to provide NATO interoperability.
Team B – Architecture Surveillance Systems & Equipment

Recommendations on the systems to be considered and how to combine them;
Identification of compatibility/incompatibility between civil solution and military solutions.
